Dear Promoters, EBMA Board & European bluegrass friends,
I'm looking for ideas and hands on involvement to develop our new European Booking Network. It does seem to be a big challenge but I'm sure you are interested in this topic and you are hoping for some creative solutions to finding extra gigs for the bands you wish to book for your events and to make those frequently difficult to organise tours. much more viable.
Here are some of my ideas for comment
1/ I need to mail out the contents of our notice board page http://www.scottishbluegrass.com/network.htm to the widest range of festivals and promoters in Europe - I am looking for the contact e-mail addresses of any event or venue in Europe that is likely to book bluegrass, or indeed that has not previously booked bluegrass - can you send me contacts other than the ones in the EBMA directory and I'll mail out the page and the link to as wide a mailing as possible. This means that when you post requests and information on the page then you are more likely to get a response if we have really good coverage of festivals and promoters for our network notice board.
2/ We need to encourage associations and individuals to tell us the details of promoters and venues and also we need to encourage associations themselves to organise tours within their countries. The question here is how do we stimulate and develop the market via national associations- I think of course that many of us are already working flat out on this so I think that we need more people on board for this and we need stronger national associations and better coverage within Europe. We don't seem to have any shortage of European bluegrass musicians however I wonder how many of these bands would be prepared to stage a gig, provide PA, publicity and support for a visiting band. Can we think of ways to encourage this? Can we think of ways to encourage bands within countries to encourage other visiting musicians rather than to view them as competition.
Well I'm looking for other good ideas which If we develop them might go some way to improving the market and help solve this big challenge of finding good gigs for touring bands and develop the audience for bluegrass! Quite a challenge for EBMA but fundamental to growth of the market and audience development for bluegrass in Europe.
Best Wishes
John Sheldon
