https:/Today has brought the very sad news that our good friend Tracy Schwarz has passed on. He has been a figure in my life since my birth in 1962, when, as a member of the New Lost City Ramblers, he and Mike Seeger and John Cohen used to stop regularly by our farm and play music all night long with my parents, Peter and Polly Gott. On one of these stops, they filmed this footage, for the national parks. My favorite moments, all featuring Tracy, are minutes 1:30, 3:00, 3:47 (early rendition of Poor Old Dirt Farmer), 6:55 (Foggy Mtn Top), 9:00 (Arkansas Traveler), 17:14 (In the Pines), and the moments from 12:45, with George Landers, who, along with his wife Dutz, was often my babysitter as a child when my folks were building their log house, and we passed in front of this old one-room shack every day. From Tracy I soaked up the slidey feel of bluegrass on the fiddle, and the cadence of the high lonesome harmonies. My love goes out to his wife Ginny, his daughter Sallyann, and his son Peter, who share his love for the old ballads, as well as his infectious and impish smile. Long live his legacy....."
