As sad as we are to report the departure of our long time bassist and good friend Byron House, we send him off with all respect due and health, happiness and success in his new musical endeavors. And we welcome Todd Parks.
Todd Parks is a Nashville, TN based acoustic and electric bassist. Parks earned his undergraduate & Masters degrees in String Performance and Jazz Studies from University of Tennessee/Knoxville. He studied with bassist Rusty Holloway, pianist Donald Brown and drummer Keith Brown. While living in Knoxville, Parks performed with bands Gran Torino, Robinella and the CC Stringband, JT and Saltines and the Superfly Soundtrip. He also taught as an adjunct professor at UT/Knoxville and Lee University in Cleveland, TN.
In 2003 Todd Parks moved to Nashville and quickly established himself as an in demand sideman for such diverse artists as Jack Pearson, The Nashville Jazz Orchestra, Justin Thompson, Daybreak, Bee Gee Adair, Jody Nardone, Steve Kovalcheck and Shane Roberts. Spring of 2006 Parks became a member of The Jerry Douglas Band. He toured and recorded extensively with Douglas for the next four years and served as assistant musical director to Jerry Douglas for the BBC/RTE Television series TRANSATLANTIC SESSIONS, series 3 & 4. Look for the upcoming American broadcast of TRANSATLANTIC SESSIONS 4 in summer of 2010 on PBS affiliates.
Spring of 2010, Jerry Douglas opened the door for Todd Parks to audition for the recently named Father Of Newgrass (by the Kentucky legislature), Sam Bush. The audition went well! Sam welcomes Todd into his band as they head out on a whole new set of musical journeys. And the adventure continues........
